Rothkopf points out that the central goal of these identifiable elites is global governance (no different from "government") and an end to the nation-state. That means an end to national sovereignty. He identifies the Bohemian Grove and the Bilderberg Group as important meeting places for the elite. He also explains how to overcome the objections of "anti-globalists" who believe in national sovereignty: make the populations feel like they have a stake in the world that the elites are creating. Propaganda.
Salon.com high-lights Rothkopf's argument that the elites, "have little need for national loyalty, view national boundaries as obstacles that thankfully are vanishing, and see national governments as residues from the past whose only useful function is to facilitate the elite's global operations."
The promo for the book states:
"Each one of them is one in a million. They number six thousand on a planet of six billion. They run our governments, our largest corporations, the powerhouses of international finance, the media, world religions, and, from the shadows, the world’s most dangerous criminal and terrorist organizations. They are the global superclass, and they are shaping the history of our time."Rothkopf explains in a speech here (around 17:00), "The greatest power of the Superclass is to shape conventional wisdom about how the world should work." I couldn't agree more. Their greatest power is not brute force, but brain-washing (or "education") and propaganda (or "news"). One of my favorite quotes is, "None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free."
Rothkopf also tells (around 33:00) of how, essentially, elite bankers, the Pope, CEOs, and other elites make the decisions that impact our world. He dismisses the argument that this is "crazy conspiracy talk," instead, making a simple common sense argument: "who has more influence over the outcome of U.S. foreign policy, you or the CEO of Exxon."
